In Mansa that topped in the state in polling percentage (87), 4.27 lakh out of 5.61 lakh voters cast their vote. Around 25,000 young voters polled for the first time in the three constituencies of Mansa district.
In Mansa Assembly segment, out of a total of 2,05,709 voters, around 1,73,141 voters polled while in Sardulgarh constituency, about 1,52,938 voters out of 1,72,000 voters pressed the ballot button on EVMs. In Budhlada Assembly segment, 1,61,048 out of 1,83,964 voters cast their vote.
Bharat Bhushan, Election Tehsildar, said, “The poll percentage has witnessed a rise of five per cent from the 2012 elections. Around 25,000 young voters cast their vote for the first time. The polling remained peaceful.”
On reasons for high percentage of voting, Mansa DC Varinder Sharma said, “We created awareness among voters by conducting rallies, competitions in colleges, street plays and ‘Jaggo’ Folk dance, besides circulating messages on social media. Aggressive campaigning by political parties was also a reason.”
