Sikh radical Khalsa commits suicide

Kurukshetra: Sikh radical Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa, agitating for the release of Sikh prisoners who have completed their sentence, allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday evening at his native Thaska Ali village in Kurukshetra district. 62 water samples to be examined

Chandigarh: On the directions of Health Minister Anil Vij, the Food and Drugs Administration has sent 102 samples collected from across the state for examination. The samples include mineral water in bottles and cold drinks. State Drugs Controller, Food and Drugs Administration, Narendra Ahuja said the samples of bottled water of Bailey, Aquafine, Rohtang, Aqualife and Bisleri had been collected. Besides this, the samples of cold drinks such as 7Up, Coca Cola, Limca, Sprite, Fanta, Mirinda and Pepsi had been collected. He said there were 62 samples of bottled water and 40 of cold drinks. TNS

Boy caught ‘stealing’ bag with Rs 1 lakh 

Sonepat: An eight-year-old boy was allegedly caught stealing a bag containing Rs 1 lakh from outside the State Bank of India at Gohana on Tuesday. The boy was taken in police custody. He is a native of Gudiyala village in Madhya Pradesh. He lives with his parents outside the Gohana railway station. On receiving information from bank manager Swaran Singh, the police reached the spot and took the boy in their custody. TNS

Sarpanches oppose e-panchayat system 

Jhajjar: Sarpanches of over 50 villages under Jhajjar block on Tuesday organised a meeting at Shri Ram Park here and demanded the state government to withdraw e-panchayat system. “Under this system, the gram panchayats will be able to execute only those development projects that has been included in the budget. Earlier, the panchayat was authorised to initiate any project after approval,” said Mahavir Singh, block president, Sarpanch Association of Haryana. TNS

3-day NCC fest begins

Sonepat: Colonel Sandeep Chaudhary, Commanding Officer of 12 NCC Battalion, Haryana, inaugurated three-day NCC festival at Geeta Vidya Mandir Girls College here on Tuesday. He urged NCC cadets to responsibly discharge their duties as people had great expectations from them.
