Factory fire: Two succumb to burns

YAMUNANAGAR: Two persons, who sustained burn injuries as fire broke out in an aluminum factory here on Monday succumbed to injuries at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, on Wednesday night.

Two persons, who sustained burn injuries as fire broke out in an aluminum factory here on Monday succumbed to injuries at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, on Wednesday night.

In all, 13 men, including one of the factory owners, were injured in the incident cause by gas leakage from a cylinder.

The deceased have been identified as SS Pundir and Pratap Singh, both employees in the factory.

Kanwaljit Singh, SHO, City police station, said the bodies would be brought to Yamunanagar after completing the formalities at the PGMIER.

“On the complaint of a worker, a case was registered against the factory owners on September 16. More charges may be added to the FIR as two men have died,” the SHO said.

Meanwhile, a three-member team of the industrial safety and health wing of the Labour Department, comprising Deputy Director Surinder Singh, Assistant Director (Chemical) Navin Saini and Assistant Director Sumit Sahni, inspected the factory and submitted an inquiry report to the Chief Inspector of Factory, Haryana, on Wednesday.

“The focus of the inquiry was to ascertain the cause of fire and check safety measure for workers in the factory,” Sahni said, refusing to share the details of the inquiry report.

Sources said if the factory management was found at fault in the inquiry report, the Chief Inspector of Factory would start the process of prosecution.
