Four youths drown in Yamuna canal

SONEPAT: Four youths identified as Laxdeep (24), Hitesh (23), Rohit (22), and Saurabh (22) of Punjabi colony in Sampla of Rohtak drowned in Delhi branch of the West Yamuna Canal near Rohat village on the Sonepat-Rohtak highway late last night.

Four youths identified as Laxdeep (24), Hitesh (23), Rohit (22), and Saurabh (22) of Punjabi colony in Sampla of Rohtak drowned in Delhi branch of the West Yamuna Canal near Rohat village on the Sonepat-Rohtak highway late last night.

Body of Laxdeep has been fished out by divers, whereas, despite all efforts of the district administration, and divers from the NDRF team, have failed to trace the bodies of the other three missing youth. After the postmortem, Laxdeep’s body has been handed over to his family members.

According to the police, all four of them along with their friend Chirag were coming in a car to have dinner at Murthal dhaba late last night. When they reached at a bridge over the canal at 11 pm last night, Saurabh, who was driving the car, took a wrong turn after seeing a truck coming from the opposite direction, and the car fell in the canal.

Chirag managed to come out of the canal and informed about the incident.

On receiving information, the police reached on the spot and started a search operation. Locals also joined them in the search operation.

Congress and BJP leaders and officers of the district administration, including SP Satinder Kumar reached on the spot today. The flow of the water in the canal has been reduced to help the divers search the bodies.
