Gender determination racket busted,1 held

MAHENDRAGARH: A joint team of district health and police departments today busted a gender determination racket by arresting a woman tout from Mahendragarh city while her accomplice managed to flee.

A joint team of district health and police departments today busted a gender determination racket by arresting a woman tout from Mahendragarh city while her accomplice managed to flee. The racket was being run from her house in Baans Mohalla here.

Dr Arun Kalra, Deputy Civil Surgeon (PNDT), Narnaul, said Neelam has been booked under various sections of the PC-PNDT act and the IPC.

“Neelam had struck a deal with a decoy customer for Rs 20,000. She called the customer to her house in Mahendragarh on Thursday. Anuj, a resident of Nanakvaas village, who was present there, performed an ultrasound test on her with the help of a portable machine and disclosed the gender of the foetus,” said Kalra. However, Anuj managed to flee with the machine as soon as the team raided the house.

He said money paid by the decoy customer was recovered from Neelam’s house. She was being interrogated to identify other people involved in the racket.
