Hans seeks regular jobs for safai karamcharis

Vice-chairperson of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Hans Raj Hans on Friday sought regular jobs for sanitary workers and timely disbursal of their salary through the bank account.

“I am visiting various parts of the country to know about the problems being faced by safai karamcharis. The exploitation of contractual staff by not releasing their salary on time and no job security are some of the major issues being raised by safai karamcharis,” said Hans, while talking to The Tribune on the sidelines of a state-level swachhta workshop at Jat Dharamshala.

He interacted with representatives of safai karamchari unions and listened to their grievances. He held a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Aditya Dahiya, the ADC, EO, KMC, and secretaries of all civic bodies of the district.

He appreciated the works being done by Subhash Chander, executive vice-chairman, Swachh Bharat Mission, Haryana, and the KMC.

Hans said the government must ensure that no person should go inside the manhole without uniform, gloves, equipment and other protective gears. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is concerned on this issue and CM Manohar Lal Khattar has also been urged to ensure all basic facilities to staff entrusted with the task of cleaning manholes,” he said.

He said a report was being prepared on the problems being faced by safai karamcharis and he would soon meet the PM in this regard.
