Hisar, August 5

While the Chandigarh police are drawing applause for quickly arresting state BJP president’s Subhash Barala’s son and his friend for stalking the daughter of a Haryana cadre IAS officer in Chandigarh, the Hisar police have failed to act in time to track down a car with persons suspected of kidnapping a woman this evening.

A local resident, Umesh Sharma, has lodged a police complaint in this regard. However, the Civil Lines police station official expressed ignorance about any complaint. Umesh told The Tribune that he heard the screams of a woman in a Maruti Alto car while crossing the Dabra flyover in the town. The woman accompanied by three youths was crying for help. He said he heard her saying through an open windowpane of the car that she was being kidnapped. When he inquired from the youths while driving close to their car, they asked him to look at the rear of their car which had “police” inscribed.

Umesh said, “I alerted a policeman standing at some distance and told him the car’s registration number. The policeman refused to act and instead advised me to dial 100 to contact the police control room. I tried several times but could not reach the 100 help number. I then went to the adjoining Civil Lines police station to lodge a written complaint”. He said the policemen at the police station told him that the woman could be mentally unstable and was possibly being taken somewhere by the police or Red Cross Society volunteers. “It’s apparently a suspected case of kidnapping. And even if it is not, the police must inquire into the matter. Moreover, there is nobody to take calls at the 100 help number,” he added. SP Manisha Chaudhary did not respond to calls on her mobile phone.
