HPSC selects ‘rejected’ candidate after 10 months

The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) rejected a candidate for a post of assistant professor (college cadre) in the results declared in December last year by giving her “fewer” marks than she deserved in the “personal achievements” category.

The HPSC kept refusing to share with her the selection criteria under the RTI ACT and did not take any action when the candidate, Rachna Saini, gave a representation to it.

However, when she moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court in August this year, the HPSC sought time for reply when the case was fixed for September 21.

On October 13, the HPSC revised the result declared 10 months ago, showing her as selected this time.

“There was an inadvertent error in compilation. After the candidate filed a petition in the court, we noticed the mistake and have corrected it and issued a revised result. On the next date of hearing, we will inform the High Court that the error stands rectified and the aggrieved candidate has been selected,” HPSC Chairman Manvir Singh Bhadana told The Tribune.

In the result for assistant professor (mass communication) declared on December 2, 2016, another candidate, Ajay Saini, was shown as selected against one seat reserved for the Backward Class – B category.

Saini joined Rajiv Gandhi Government College, Saha (Ambala), on March 2 as assistant professor.

The revision of result has shattered Saini as sources close to him said he had joined this job after quitting as guest faculty from Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra.
