The state government has given its approval to Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) to start postgraduate courses of Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in surgery, orthopaedics and anaesthesiology.

The DNB degree is awarded to the candidates who complete their PG under the National Board of Examinations (NBE), an autonomous academic body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

This step is being considered as a big achievement for the college as it has started its function only last year by admitting the first batch of 100 MBBS students.

“We have received a letter from the state government to run PG courses in three subjects. It will help in increasing the number of specialist doctors,” said Dr Surinder Kashyap, Director, KCGMCH.

Since KCGMCH is a new institution and the MCI has not allowed it to run PG courses in clinical subjects so far, the college then approached the state government for starting these courses, he adds.

“Our main aim is to provide better health services to people of Haryana and adjoining states. These courses will help in providing specialised healthcare to patients,” said the Director.

“We have started the process of registration of these courses with NBE. Soon, inspection of the departments will be carried out by a team of the NBE,” he said.

“We have all facilities and the infrastructure to run these courses,” he said.
