Science show disappoints, lowest of lot

CHANDIGARH: The pass percentage in the science stream is the lowest among the three streams, with 66.1 per cent of students clearing the exam. The pass percentage in humanities is 77.01 and commerce 76.85.

The pass percentage in the science stream is the lowest among the three streams, with 66.1 per cent of students clearing the exam. The pass percentage in humanities is 77.01 and commerce 76.85.

In 2018, the pass percentage in the science stream was 67.38 — better than humanities (62.03) and commerce (65.79).

This year, chemistry has the lowest pass percentage among science subjects at 75.07 followed by physics (78.46).

In the languages, English has the poorest pass percentage. Only three students appeared for English elective. One of them got compartment. So, the pass percentage comes out to be 66.67. Hindi Elective has the pass percentage of 83.87.

All 1.91 lakh students appeared in English core and 88.48 per cent of them cleared the subject. In Hindi core, the pass percentage is 96.99. More than 98 per cent of students cleared Sanskrit exam and 96.47 per cent of students passed Urdu exam.

Punjabi has the highest pass percentage at 98.48 among all subjects. Last year too, Punjabi had the highest pass percentage (99.16).

General and OBC students have almost the same pass percentage. It is 75.37 for general category students and 75.07 for OBC students.

The SCs had a pass percentage of 57.43 in 2018. This year, it has improved to 71.63. — TNS
