Students of Government Senior Secondary School in Zaffarpur village of the district today locked the main gate of the school in protest against vacant posts of lecturer.

The students raised slogans against the Education Department and the state government. Officials of the Education Department and the police reached the village to pacify the students.

The students said that their studies had been suffering due to shortage of lecturers and they had requested the authorities repeatedly to arrange the lecturers, but to no avail.

Sources said out of the 11 sanctioned posts of lecturer to teach students of Classes IX to XII, nine were lying vacant. The posts of lecturer of important subjects, including English, mathematics, Hindi and economics, were yet to be filled.

The school had fared badly in the recently announced results of Class XII. Out of 34 students, only 13 managed to clear the examination.

Villagers said children’s education was being affected due to vacant posts. The Education Department was apprised of the shortage several times, but no action was taken. Even the online transfers failed to provide adequate lecturers to the school.

School principal Om Krishan said: “There are only two lecturers for political science and Sanskrit subjects in the school while the posts of all other important subjects are lying vacant. The education is being affected due to vacant posts. Out of 34 students, 14 students have compartment in English and if we had an English teacher, these students would have also cleared the examination.”

“In the absence of the English teacher, the Sanskrit teacher used to teach the students and 13 students managed to clear the exam”, he added.
