YAMUNANAGAR: Water level in the Yamuna river at Hathni Kund barrage rose to 1.

Yamunanagar, August 13

Water level in the Yamuna river at Hathni Kund barrage rose to 1.44 cusecs on Monday due to rain in catchment areas of the river.

At 1 am, water level at Hathni Kund barrage was recorded at 26,307 cusecs. It rose 46,785 cusecs at 3 am. Water level continued to rise and it reached 1,44,036 cusecs at 9 am. It, however, receded to 92,541 cusecs at 5 pm.

A heavy rainfall in the upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh has led to a sudden rise in water level of seasonal rivulets Som and Pathrala, also submerging paddy, sugarcane and fodder crops in several villages situated on the banks of these rivers in Yamunanagar district.

The Pathrala river overflowed and water entered Government Middle School at Raipur Damauli village which is situated on the banks of the river.

On July 28, water level in the Yamuna had reached 6.05 lakh cusecs following incessant rainfall in Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. — TNS
