Officials of the Horticulture, Tourism, Skill Development Corporation and Animal Husbandry Departments apprised the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Portmore, of various vocational courses and skills that could make them self-employed.  As many as  1,027 students from classes IX to XII attended  the career counseling workshop organised on the school campus. The officials gave detailed information on various job opportunities and schemes being promoted by the state government for the unemployed youth. Jagdish Verma briefed the students about innovative gardening techniques and other cutting-edge technologies in horticulture that the youngsters could adopt and start their own venture to become self-reliant. Dr Vikas Ranta apprised the students of the loan scheme for jobs in the Animal Husbandry Department and the dairy industry. 

Programme for teachers

A two-day workshop on ‘Capacity Building’ was organised to enhance the teaching-learning skills of teachers at DAV Public School, Bharoli near Kangra. As many as 100 delegates from different DAV schools attended the workshop and benefited from the interactions and presentations on various topics. P Sofat, regional officer, HP Zone-A, Kamna Beri, cluster head, MR Rana, principal, DAV-Bhagni,  Ashok Kumar Guleria, principal, DAV-Chamba, Lata Thakur, principal, DAV-Narwana and Surjeet Kumar Rana, principal of the host school, were present. Principal Surjeet Kumar Rana motivated the participants to give their best, saying a teacher played an important role in shaping up the future of students.

NSUI activists meet Devvrat

The NSUI unit of Himachal Pradesh University on Wednesday met Acharya Devvrat and thanked him for the steps he took for improving the condition of hostels. Campus president of the NSUI Vinnu Mehta told Devvrat that some professors and associate professors in the university were siding with student bodies. He said some teachers were extending support to the ABVP, VHP, BJP and RSS on the social media. They submitted a memorandum to the outgoing Governor. Mehta demanded strict action against those indulging in such activities. The NSUI also urged the Governor to restore direct elections to the Students Central Association (SCA).
