Girls stand tall in Class XII state board exams

Girls secured the top positions in the Class XII board examination results declared by the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBSE) on Monday. They bagged eight of the 10 top positions in the arts, science and commerce streams.

There has, however, been a decline in the pass percentage, a trend that has been consistent for the past three years. As per the date provided by Suresh Kumar Soni, Chairman of the HPBSE, the pass percentage in the 2006 Class XII examinations was 78.93 per cent. It 2017, it dropped to 72.89 per cent and 70.18 per cent in 2018. This year, the pass percentage has dropped 8 per cent to just 62.01 per cent.

Soni said this year, 95,492 students appeared in the Class XII board exams. “Of this, 58,949 have passed, 16,102 have passed with compartment and 19,728 have been declared fail,” said the Chairman.

Ashmita Sharma of DAV Senior Secondary School, Una, topped the arts stream with 96.4 per cent, Sakshi Thakur of Government Senior Secondary School in Darbiar, Mandi, stood second with 96 per cent, and Kartikeya Kahol of BBNB Government School at Saloh in Una secured the third position with 95.8 per cent marks.

Anil Kumar of Sai Star School, Dhalpur, Kullu, topped the science stream with 98.6 per cent marks. The second position was bagged jointly by Prakriti Thakur of Little Angle Public School in Mehre, Hamirpur, Saanvi Sankhyan of Minerva Senior Secondary School, Ghumarwin, Bilaspur, and Jeevesh Awasthi of SVN Senior Secondary School Kunihar in Solan district with 98.2 per cent marks. Shubhangini of Government Senior Secondary School in Gopalpur, Mandi, secured the third spot with 98 per cent marks.

In the commerce stream, Preity Birsanta of Career Academy Senior Secondary School in Nahan,  Sirmaur, stood first with 98.8 per cent marks, Ishiti Aggarwal of Adarsh Vidya Niketan Public Senior Secondary School in Nahan bagged the second position with 98.4 per cent marks and Dikshu Sharma of Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Rohru, Shimla, secured the third spot with 97.6 per cent marks.

Soni said the students who wanted to apply for re-evaluation or re-checking could do so by depositing the requisite fee within 15 days of the declaration of the results.
