Join cleanliness campaign, Guv tells Red Cross Society

SOLAN: Governor Bandaru Dattatreya today said the Red Cross was a campaign for the suffering humanity and it could also be utilised for cleanliness and plastic-free society.

Governor Bandaru Dattatreya today said the Red Cross was a campaign for the suffering humanity and it could also be utilised for cleanliness and plastic-free society.

He was speaking during the inaugural function of the district-level fair organised by the Red Cross Society at Nalagarh. He urged the people to associate themselves with the Red Cross so that humanitarian activities could be undertaken to provide succour to the underprivileged.

Dattatreya expressed satisfaction that from April 2018 to March 2019, the society had provided financial assistance of Rs 3.54 lakh to 79 poor and needy patients enrolled 20 life members, raising the total life members to 820.

Appreciating the efforts of the society, he said 30 per cent share amounting to Rs 1.23 lakh would be remitted by the society to the State Red Cross Society, Shimla, for 2018-19.

He said members were running “Shoolini Prasadam Seva” near the Zonal Hospital, Solan, for the distribution of free meals to the attendants of patients.

The Governor underlined the need to improve the sex ratio and check female foeticide. He said there should be no discrimination in the name of son and daughter, as girls were ahead in every field of society and also glorified the name of their family and country.

He also stressed on natural farming as water, air and food had become polluted due to the excessive use of chemicals. He urged them to include cleanliness and plastic-free India in its campaign.

He honoured Raja Vijender Singh, Subodh Gupta and Rajeev Mehta for their valuable contributions to society and others for achievements in their respective fields.

Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, District Red Cross Society, KC Chaman said the society had been involved in humanitarian works since 1973 and efforts were being made to increase the number of members.

Sub Divisional Magistrate Prashant Deshta proposed a vote of thanks.
