Solan traders burn Chinese goods

Traders on Tuesday burnt Chinese goods in protest against China’s stand on the use of veto power to stall the designation of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist in the UN Security Council for the fourth time.

The Confederation of All-India Traders (CAIT) had given a nationwide protest call in this regard.

Members of the Solan Beopar Mandal, led by their president Mukesh Gupta, gathered at the old bus stand and urged the public to discontinue the use of Chinese goods such as shoes, slippers, electrical gadgets, eatables and cellphones.

They lit candles and apprised people how China was harming the country’s interests. They also burnt Chinese goods as a mark of protest.

Gupta said the CAIT had urged the traders to boycott Chinese goods and stop buying products from that country. The traders also demanded that the Centre should impose an import duty of 300 to 500 per cent on the Chinese goods as had been done in the case of Pakistan, where an import duty of 200 per cent had been imposed. Members of various transport unions also joined the protest.
