Mazra, a small village in Indora, will now have three Padma Shri awardees. The Government of India has chosen Dr Sandeep Guleria, the younger brother of Padma Shri Dr Randeep Guleria, for the award.
Dr Sandeep (medicine-surgery) is at present serving in Apollo Hospital, Delhi. He is the son of Padma Shri awardee Dr Jagdev Singh Guleria (91), former head of the Department of Medicine, All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi.
At present, Dr Randeep Guleria is the director of AIIMS and was conferred Padma Shri two years ago when he was head of Department of Pulmonary in there. Dr Jagdev Guleria is still working as a consultant in Sita Ram Bharti Hospital, Delhi.
The award was also announced for Dr Jagat Ram of Nahan district and present director of the PGI, Chandigarh, Ajay Thakur of Nalagarh, captain of Indian kabaddi team, and Dr Omesh Bharti (medicine rabies). The award is conferred by the President at a ceremonial function usually around March or April every year. — OC
