Mandi, November 7

College teachers are opposing the decision of the government to mark the attendance through biometric machines. They said it was against the norms of the University Grants Commission.

The Himachal Government College Teachers Association, Mandi unit, convened a meeting under the leadership of Jaswant Singh, associate professor of zoology department in Government Vallabh College, Mandi, to discuss the issue.

Chaman Premi, professor of journalism and mass communication, said during the meeting, most teachers opposed the decision. The association was demanding basic infrastructure to revolutionise the education system.

“There is acute shortage of the staff in government colleges, which directly impacts our education system. Similarly, we are far behind in latest equipment,” he added.

He said the profession was different from other professions and teachers needed adequate time and suitable place for study to deliver lecture. They were lacking the facility.

“We urge the government to avoid installing biometric machines in colleges and focus on basic infrastructure and adequate education staff,” he added.
