Bijbehara, May 23
Ten civilians, including three women, were injured in a grenade explosion here on Wednesday.
Police reports said the explosion took place around 11.50 am on Wednesday.
“Militants threw the grenade at a vehicle of security forces at Goriwan Chowk of Bijbehara town,” a senior police officer said, adding that the grenade missed its target and exploded on the roadside, injuring 10 civilians.
The injured were rushed to the Sub-District Hospital in the vicinity.
“We received 10 injured persons. While six were treated here, four were referred to Srinagar,” a doctor at the hospital said.
A huge contingent of security forces reached the spot soon after the explosion and carried out search operations in the area.
This is the second militant attack in Bijbehara town in just over a week. On May 15, a policeman was killed and another was injured after militants opened fire at their vehicle.
