A two-year-old boy allegedly drowned in a water tank at his house in Banola village of Poonch district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Azyan.

Giving details, Mendhar block medical officer Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan said the boy was brought to the hospital around 11.30 am but was declared brought dead by the doctor on duty.

He said according to family members, the boy was alone in his room and other members were grazing livestock in nearby fields. The boy might have seen his mother in the fields and left to meet her but fell in the open water tank, the villagers guessed.

After returning from the field, the mother didn’t find the boy so she started looking for him and found him floating in the water tank. She raised an alarm and the family members took him out of the tank and rushed to the hospital.
