Four killed, 9 injured in Gandoh road mishap

DODA: Four persons were killed and nine injured in a road accident in the Gandoh area of Doda district on Saturday when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and fell into a deep gorge.

Four persons were killed and nine injured in a road accident in the Gandoh area of Doda district on Saturday when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded and fell into a deep gorge.

The incident took place at 10.45 am when the Tata Sumo vehicle on the way from Kal-Jugasar to Gandoh skidded off the road and rolled down a 300-foot gorge at Gangal, around 10 km from Gandoh.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Mohammed Shabir said, “Four persons were killed and nine injured in the road accident at Gandoh when an overloaded vehicle skidded off the track and rolled down into a deep gorge.”

Immediately after the accident, locals, police and teams of the administration shifted the injured to nearby Community Health Centre at Changa.

Chief Medical Officer, Doda, Dr Mushtaq said, “Of the six injured, we have referred three to Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu.”

Those killed in the accident were identified as Pushpa Devi, Mubarak Ali, Sapna Devi and Pavitra Devi.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Traffic, Zuhaib Patigaroo said, “Overloading is a major problem on the link roads. We are trying our best to curb it, but there is a shortage of policemen to handle it.” Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Gandoh, Dalbir Choudhary said, “In the past few years, we have built many new roads, but we have not been able to manage the traffic properly. This results in almost daily road accidents.”

‘Short of traffic policemen’ 

Zuhaib Patigaroo, DSP, Traffic, said overloading was a major problem on the link roads. He said they were trying their best but there was a shortage of policemen to tackle the problem
