Forest Minister Choudhary Lal Singh today said the government was committed to creating adequate infrastructure for the promotion of sports.

The government aims to upgrade all stadiums on modern lines and hold mega sports events to bring out the talent, he said at the concluding function of a six-day football tournament organised by the Delhi Public School (DPS) here at Rajbagh in Kathua.

He appreciated the Youth Services and Sports Department and the Sports Council for proposing football clubs in every nook and corner of the state. He asked the twin sports bodies to work in the same spirit and take steps to revive hockey in the state.

“The government is trying every bit to create world-class sports facilities for the local talent to flourish. Our youth have already proved their mettle in the recent sports events at national and international levels,” the minister said.

He said the participation of state youth in national and international events reflects that Jammu and Kashmir has vast talent that can earn a good name in the world of games.
