2 militants killed in gunfight in north Kashmir''s Bandipora

SRINAGAR: Two militants were on Thursday killed in an encounter with security forces in Hajin area of Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said. The gunfight started in the wee hours when joint teams of the police, Army and CRPF were carrying out a search operation.

Two militants were on Thursday killed in an encounter with security forces in Hajin area of Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said.

The gunfight started in the wee hours when joint teams of the police, Army and CRPF were carrying out a cordon and a search operation at Parrey Mohalla Hajin, some 35 km from Srinagar.

“The hiding militants opened fire on the searching parties which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” a security officer said.

The officer said there were inputs that at least two militants were hiding in the area. Searches were still going on, the officer added.

In the past 24 hours this is the third gunfight in Kashmir. Four policemen and two militants were killed in two separate violent incidents in south Kashmir on Wednesday.
