Residents of New Plot held a protest against the Consumer Affairs Department over shortage of ration, especially sugar, in the city. Protesters alleged that the government was totally insensitive to problems faced by consumers who were not getting ration on time.

People alleged that while the state government talked of implementing the Food Security Act in the state, but the existing system was not able to fulfil the demands of consumers, especially poor people.

Speaking on the occasion, Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) president Sunil Dimple claimed that the PDP-BJP government had failed to solve the basic issues of the common man, who had put his faith in the new coalition.

“People voted for a change and brought the BJP-PDP coalition to rule the state, but both the parties have failed to solve the issues of the common man. There is a lot of resentment among the masses as they feel dejected by the policies of the government,” said Dimple.

The protesters also demanded building more flyovers in the city to ease traffic pressure, which has becoming a major problem for the commuters. “Successive government have been announcing major flyover projects for the city, but they have never been implemented and remain pending. The city witnesses traffic chaos daily, which has adversely affected every section of society,” said Sushil Raj, a protester.

They demanded construction of an alternative four-way circular road from Amphalla-Manda to High Court Janipur-Roop Nagar, Bantalab, and from Jewal Chowk to Talab tillo via Bhagwati Nagar-Canal Road.
