Class X-XII results may be delayed

JAMMU: After the postponement of ongoing secondary (Class X), higher secondary part-I (Class XI) and higher secondary (Class XII) examinations of summer zone (Jammu province) twice, the declaration of results of over 35,000 students is likely to be delayed by the J&K State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) by 10-15 days.

After the postponement of ongoing secondary (Class X), higher secondary part-I (Class XI) and higher secondary (Class XII) examinations of summer zone (Jammu province) twice, the declaration of results of over 35,000 students is likely to be delayed by the J&K State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) by 10-15 days.

Pertinently, the education board had postponed first two Class XII annual board examinations, which were scheduled to be held on February 23 and 26, respectively, due to the tense situation on the border. Later, the Class X examination, scheduled to be held on February 27, was also postponed.

Sources said apart from extended dates of examinations, another reason for the delay in the declaration of result was the deployment of teaching staff of School Education Department in different constituencies of the state for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

However, the education board had its task cut out to ensure adequate availability of teaching staff posted inthe state-run schools, including teachers/masters/lecturers, across Jammu to check answer sheets of all three classes, they stated.

“No doubt, there is some difficulty due to the shortage of invigilator staff but the checking of answer sheets is also going on for all three classes. After the conduct of examinations, the answer sheets are coded within a few days and provided to the invigilators concerned,” a JKBOSE official said.

“Usually, the result of Class X and Class XII is declared within 40 days of completion of examinations but this time, the postponement of examinations was a setback. Further, the Class XI examinations were also being conducted by BOSE this year, which means more manpower required for additional answer sheets of Class XI,” the official added.

A total of 38,945 students are appearing at 359 examination centres for the Class XII annual board examinations while 539 examination centres have been set up across Jammu province for Class X where 53,182 students are appearing. A total of 394 centres have been set up by BOSE for 44,000 students of Class XI.
