Aspirants from Kashmir appearing in the National Eligibility Test (NET) being conducted by the National Testing Agency have appealed to the authorities to shift their centres to the Valley as hundreds of them have been designated centres in other areas.

The aspirants said the NET exam was scheduled between June 20 and 28. The students said despite choosing the option of having centres in Kashmir while filling up their forms, they had been given centres outside Kashmir.

“NET is not a high-end exam for which one can bear so many expenses like travelling and accommodation and that too in so much heat. We are always being forced to take to streets for our basic demands,” said Shaista, an aspirant from Srinagar.

The agency had created a difficulty for students earlier this year too when it had not set up any exam centres for the National Eligibility Entrance Test and Graduate Aptitude Test Exam.

“The exam agency must pay heed to the problems of students and shift centres for all Valley students here,” another aspirant Shakir Mir said.

An official in the administration said they had taken up the issue with the agency and were looking for options to set up more centres in Kashmir.
