Briefed on functioning of transport department

SP Vaid, Transport Commissioner, met Governor Satya Pal Malik at Raj Bhawan here on Wednesday.

An official statement said Vaid apprised the Governor of the various initiatives of the trans-port department for ensuring road safety management and facilitation of commuters.

The Governor emphasised the vital importance of ensuring strict discipline on roads to reduce accidents and stressed routine checking of vehicles for their compliance with rules and regulations. He also discussed with the transport commissioner the availability of bus service to people living in far-off areas.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen Naveen Kumar Airy, ADG, NCC Directorate, J&K, also met the Governor. He informed him of the NCC’s ongoing activities in the state. The Governor lauded the role being played by the NCC in grooming youth to their full potential. He stressed the importance of all-out efforts to attract youth towards enrolling themselves in this excellent organisation and pursue their dream of joining the defence forces.
