Srinagar, January 12

Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Uri sector, the Army said.

They said the Pakistan army targeted Indian posts along the LoC in the Kamalkote sector, nearly 120 km from Srinagar city, during the night and the firing continued for a few hours.

“The firing started late Thursday and continued intermittently till Friday morning. Our own forces retaliated the firing effectively,” an Army officer said.

There is no report of any casualty.

A soldier was injured two days back in a mine blast in Kamalkote during patrolling near the LoC. The injured jawan was shifted to Army’s Srinagar 92 base hospital and his condition is stated to be stable.

In the past three months, it is for the fourth time that the Indian and Pakistan troops have exchanged heavy fire in the Kamalkote sector.

In October last, an Army porter was killed and a teenaged girl was injured in Pakistan firing in Kamalkote.

Last year, there were 820 incidents of ceasefire violations in J&K — almost four times more than 2016. There were 228 ceasefire violations in 2016. A majority of these ceasefire violations last year took place along the LoC in the Jammu region.
