Stay hydrated to avoid swine flu, say doctors

SRINAGAR:With four swine flu deaths in the Kashmir valley in 36 hours, doctors have advised people to take precautions.

Srinagar, January 12

With four swine flu deaths in the Kashmir valley in 36 hours, doctors have advised people to take precautions.

People have been advised to cover their mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing and drink plenty of fluids.

In the last 36 hours, four swine flu deaths have been reported from SKIMS, Soura, and SMHS Hospital, which have taken the death toll due to swine flu this season to 11.

“Wash your hands often and cover your mouth and nose with a tissue while coughing or sneezing. Also, avoid visiting public places,” said a senior doctor at SMHS Hospital, where two swine flu deaths were reported on Friday.

Dr Nissar-ul-Hassan, president of a faction of the Doctors’ Association Kashmir, said, “People should avoid touching their eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.”

Since the flu is spreading, Nissar suggested “it is not too late to get a flu shot. It can be given as long as the flu is circulating. If you haven't done it yet, go get it”. — TNS
