Subrahmanyam reviews disaster preparedness

SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam on Friday reviewed the disaster preparedness of Jammu and Kashmir divisions in the aftermath of flood-like situation that developed in the state in the last week of June.

Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam on Friday reviewed the disaster preparedness of Jammu and Kashmir divisions in the aftermath of flood-like situation that developed in the state in the last week of June.

The review was also carried out to assess the disaster management plan for the upcoming rainy months of August and September.

The officers were informed that the executive committee of the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in its recently held meeting had approved Rs 5 crore each to be kept at the disposal of the deputy commissioners to meet the expenses on account of any emergency situation arising in the district.

He asked the officers to assess the level of flood preparednessas per the flood-check list devised for the purpose, which includes setting up of control rooms and alert system, rescue, relief and communication equipment. — TNS
