Collectively, 571 centres have been set up across the district for the exams of all the three classes, of which 262 centres are for the VIIIth standard, 178 for the Xth standard and 130 for the XII standard exams. Seventeen open centres in the district for the Xth standard exams have also been declared sensitive for which the education department said it would be extra cautious.

Of the 17 open centres in the Xth standard exams, five are in the city and the rest in rural areas which include Laddhewali, Nangal Shama, Kahlwan, Buta Mandi and Bolina, among others.

For the senior board exams for classes Xth and XIIth, 12 flying squads (eight from the district, four from outside) shall be on job and for the VIIIth boards, eight flying squads shall keep an eye on the cheaters.

Even though no cheating case has been detected in the district, the department officials say strict measures are being taken at all centres to keep cheating cases at bay.

While the XII standard exams started on February 20, these shall go on until March 14. The VIIIth exams will start tomorrow (March 8) and end on March 16. The X exams started on March 4 and will end on March 19.

While in the past few years, there has been a heightened interest in the conduct of the exams from the district administration as well, with even the Deputy Commissioner keeping tabs on the conduct of the exams, this year as well, the DC is expected to pay surprise visits to exam centres during the exams.

DEO Harinder Pal, said, “With Section 144 having been implemented outside all examination centres, we are expecting smooth conduct of the exams at all centres. Twelve flying squads shall also be keeping a check on cheaters. For the VIIIth exams, 69 cluster heads have also been put on the job to ensure no cheating takes place at the various centres. However, the eight in-district flying squads, including teams headed by me, shall also be making regular visits TO centres to keep a check on students. Additionally, all students have been disallowed from carrying mobiles inside the centres and strict discipline is also being imposed.”
