A meeting of food business operators was organised in Kapurthala Under the Tandarust Punjab mission to keep adulterated foods or unhygienic food practices at bay.

Under the Kapurthala Civil Surgeon, the awareness meeting was held in Sultanpur Lodhi with food business operators of the area in view of the upcoming 550th year celebrations which are likely to be attended by a large number of devotees from across the world.

Taking into consideration the huge gathering of devotees in Sultanpur Lodhi in particular in connection with the Parkash Parb, the food wing of the FDA, Kapurthala, addressed food business operators, especially owners of sweetmeat shops, hotels and restaurants, milk dairies, bakeries, dhabas, fast food joints and grocery stores, of the area.

Those persons who attended the meeting were asked for cooperation to ensure provision of safe, hygienic and unadulterated food to devotees visiting Sultanpur Lodhi. They stressed that food-borne diseases could be avoided by consumption of pure and unadulterated food items.

On the occasion, a booklet, ‘Changi Sehat, Changi Soch’, published in Punjabi, informing the food businessmen about basics of hygiene on the premises of food establishments, proper personal hygiene, how to ensure quality of food stuff, was also distributed. The booklet is a brainchild of Kahn Singh Pannu.

Food business operators, particularly sweetmeat shop owners, were directed not to use artificial colours in sweets or other food items and aluminium leaf to garnish sweets, etc.

The meeting was convened by Dr Harjot Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner (food), and Satnam Singh, Food Safety Officer, Kapurthala, and was attended by representatives of all categories of food business operators.
