Jalandhar, November 16

Two days after the rural police had arrested the mastermind of cash van loot, one more accused was arrested today.

The loot of Rs 1.18 crore had been reported on November 10. Out of the seven accused, six have been arrested, while one is still at large.

The accused were identified as Sukhwinder Singh, alias Nimma, and the police have recovered an amount of Rs 36, 25,200 from them. Till now, an amount of Rs 97, 94,700 has been recovered.

The police today said that after the looting incident took place, Nimma had left for his paternal aunt’s place, living in Lakhimpur district in Uttar Pradesh, and today itself he returned from there.

Senior police officials said the accused were arrested from Ladovali Road, Jalandhar.

The police had arrested Satinder Pal Singh, 25, alias Happy, who had done MSc in computer science, along with two others — Manoj Kumar (22) and Sukhdev Singh (30) — from Rajasthan two days ago.

They said police teams were constituted at the range level and the Kapurthala police were also involved since a number of accused belonged to that district.

A special investigation team, comprising Kapurthala DSP-Headquarters Jaskaranjit Singh Teja and Kapurthala CIA Staff in-charge Jatinderjit Singh, was sent to Rajasthan where they raided a house belonging to Banwari Lal, maternal uncle of accused Manoj Kumar, and arrested the three. Two of the seven accused are still at large.

The cash van was on its way to Adampur from Bhogpur to load cash in ATMs when robbers in an Indigo car and on three motorcycles looted it after a chase. One of the accused, Ranjit Singh, was arrested the same day.
