Holding placards with slogans asking people to abide by the traffic rules, a number of students of Manav Sehyog School and Delhi Public School participated in an awareness rally and seminar organised by traffic police here today.

The rally and seminar were part of the road safety week launched by the traffic police on February 4. Students of Delhi Public School, daily commuters, and bus drivers, among others, participated in the seminar held at Rama Mandi chowk.

The participants were apprised of defensive driving measures and traffic rules. Besides, video clips, road signs and signals were explained. Certificates were distributed among the drivers who attended the seminar.

Gurmail Singh, ADCP (Investigation) said: “The awareness rally commenced from BMC chowk and culminated at Circuit House. The aim behind celebrating the road safety week was to make the people aware about the traffic rules.”

He said it was an irony that educated people indulged in traffic violation despite being aware of traffic rules. They indulge in speeding, jumping red lights, do not wear helmets, and violate traffic norms.”

Helmets were distributed among those who were found driving two-wheelers without helmets. Over 1,500 pamphlets were distributed among commuters and as many as 1,000 reflectors were also put up on four-wheelers and two-wheelers.

The traffic police and other police officials also urged drivers and commuters to abide by traffic laws to prevent accidents. They said on the last two days of the week-long traffic awareness week, the traffic police will hold a free medical camp for autorickshaw and taxi drivers at the Police Lines and free pollution check- up will be organised on February 10.
