Jalandhar, February 17

Students of CT Group of Institutions came up with an Android mobile application, which was used by the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate during the 2017 Assembly elections.

The application was acknowledged by the Jalandhar Police Commissioner, Arpit Shukla, and ADCP Amneet Kondal in presence of other officials. They also appreciated students and Rakesh Rai, IT Official of the CT Group, under whose supervision the application was created.

Rai was also honored by the Election Commission with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. The Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab also recognised their efforts and decided to use the application to keep tab on violence and criminal activities during elections in different states of the country.

Giving information about the app, Shukla said, “It has mapped all polling stations in the city with police stations, patrolling teams, flying squads and even the nearest naka/police barricading points concerned with contact numbers of all officers for a quick response to any complaint received pertaining to law and order problem.”

He said during the Punjab elections, complaints received through the app were automatically directed to police personnel at the spot within a minute or so while it was also being monitored in a centralised way. As the application had all contacts, it was used even for making direct calls, he added.

“Earlier the application was named ‘Bahattar Ghante’ (meaning 72 hours), as it was the most crucial time in the last three election days. Now, the Election Commission has changed its name to ‘Intezaam’,” said Shukla.

He said, “The ECI had taken a prototype of the application from us. They want it to be used in other states that are going for elctions.” Copies of the mobile app would be made available to leaders of all political parties and voters in the region ahead of the elections, he added.

ADCP Amneet Kondal, also actively worked on developing the application. Chairman, CT Group of Institutions, Charanjit Singh Channi, and managing director, CT Group of Institutions, Manbir Singh, appreciated efforts of students. — TNS
