The Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department today organised a seminar on wheat cultivation in Adraman village of the district. Over 60 farmers attended the event in which the department sensitised them to sow wheat seeds after treatment with chloropyriphos and Bitabax chemicals.

Chief Agriculture Officer Nazar Singh said there was a need of 4 ml of chloropyriphos and 2.5 gm of bitabax for one kg of wheat seeds.

He said the farmers must treat wheat seeds with these two chemicals before sowing as these would save the crop from various diseases and termites. Meanwhile, the farmers were recently also taken to the fields where the wheat crop was sown with the help of super seeder machine. The farmers were satisfied with the growth of the crop in the fields.

Nazar added that the rent for the machine being charged by the custom hiring centre was Rs 2,000 per acre. Whereas, in conventional methods of wheat sowing, the cost usually incurs at Rs 6,000 per acre. Hence, farmers could save Rs 4,000 per acre directly by using the machine.

He said the cost of the super seeder was about Rs 2.15 lakh and 50 per cent subsidy was being offered to individual farmers and 80 per cent subsidy to farmers’ groups.

Dr Nazar also urged them to avail the benefit of wheat seed subsidy by approaching the block agriculture officials concerned.
