Four anti-dowry cases registered in one day

The police registered four cases under Anti-Dowry Act in one day on Friday.

On the complaint of Suman, a resident of Green Park, the police have registered a case under Sections 498A and 406 of the IPC against her Canada-based NRI husband Ravi Duggal, Dehradoon residents, father-in-law Chaman Lal and mother-in-law, Raj Kumari, on the charges of torturing her to bring more dowry.

The victim told the police that she was married on October 10, 2016.

She said her parents spent a huge amount on the marriage and gave sufficient dowry and alleged that though her husband went to Canada soon after her marriage but her in-laws demanded Rs 15 lakh to prepare documents for her visa.

The police are investigating the matter.

In the second case, on the complaint of Dalbir Kaur of Atholi village, the Sadar police have registered a case under Sections 498A and 406 of the IPC against her husband Mukhtiar Ram, a resident of Urban Estate, Jalandhar, and his two close relatives Paramjit Ram and Surinder Kaur on the charges of harassing her to bring more dowry.

In the third case, on a complaint lodged by Anjali Sharma, a resident of Hadiabad, the Satnampura police have registered a case under relevant Sections of the IPC against her husband Mandip Kumar, of Soondh village, his mother Parveen Rani, sisters Aarti and Gitanjali and father Lekh Raj on the charges of demanding more dowry and torturing her.

No arrest has been made so far in this regard.

In the fourth case, on the complaint of Reeta Marok, of Basant Nagar, Phagwara, the Satnampura police have booked her USA-based husband Vikas Kumar, his father Ajay Kumar and mother Pinki, under Sections 498A and 406 of the IPC on the charges of harassing her to bring more dowry. oc
