Health Dept raids sweets shops

PHAGWARA:As per the directions of Kahn Singh Pannu, Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration Punjab, Mohammad Tayyab Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala and Civil Surgeon Kapurthala under Mission Tandrust Punjab, a checking drive against adulterated and spurious food items was again conducted with the team of Food Administration Kapurthala headed by Dr Harjot Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner Food along with Satnam Singh Food Safety Officer at various places on Monday.

As per the directions of Kahn Singh Pannu, Commissioner Food and Drugs Administration Punjab, Mohammad Tayyab Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala and Civil Surgeon Kapurthala under Mission Tandrust Punjab, a checking drive against adulterated and spurious food items was again conducted with the team of Food Administration Kapurthala headed by Dr Harjot Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner Food along with Satnam Singh Food Safety Officer at various places on Monday.

Samples of sweets were taken from a reputed shop at Sarafan Bazaar, Phagwara, district Kapurthala. Two samples of khoya and rasgollas were seized from the shop. Samples of burfi were seized from a sweets shop at Rehana Jattan, Phagwara tehsil. Samples of gulab jamun and petha sweets were also seized from another sweets shop at Mehtan, Phagwara tehsil. A sample of ice-cream was also seized from a Food Business Operator dealing in ice-cream business.

Civil Surgeon Kapurthala Dr Balwant Singh said, all the sweets shop owners were strictly warned to prepare and sale paneer and khoya in their own premises. If low quality MMP (Milk and Milk Products) were found in the premises of any sweet shop/dairy, strict legal action will be taken in accordance with the law.He said the sweets shop owners were also directed not to store their items in cold stores. However, they could store these products under hygienic and temperature controlled conditions in their own premises.

He also said sweets shop owners were directed to add no colour to sweets, or if at all any colouring matter was to be added to the sweets, it should be food grade synthetic permitted colour.  

Civil Surgeon said the total 6 samples taken here today, had been despatched to the State Food Laboratory, Kharar and the report of the analysis will be made available to the department at the earliest.
