Not paid pension for 14 years, 80-year-old seeks legal help

Jalandhar, December 6

After making rounds of the Education Department a number of times, and still failing to get her meagre pension, 80-year-old Prem Lata, a retired teacher, has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court and served notice to the department.

Parshotam Lal Singla, her advocate, said a 15-day notice has been served to the department seeking reply.

“Now, the writ petition will be filed in the High Court shortly,” Singla told Jalandhar Tribune.

The notice has been served to the Secretary, Department of Education, Director, Public Instructions (Secondary Education), Deputy Director (Aided Schools), District Education Officer (Senior Secondary) Kapurthala, District Treasury Officer, Kapurthala, Headmaster and Textile Workers Educational Institute, High School, Phagwara.

The notice reads, “I serve upon you the following legal notice, on the instructions and on behalf of my client Prem Lata, for non-payment of pension to her since 2004 which was discontinued without any information and reason in spite of various representations made by her.”

Notably, Prem Lata has been waiting for her pension for several years. Prem Lata lives alone and had served for 30 years in a school with dedication and got her pension payment order number.
