The Government Railway Police (GRP) have pasted “wanted” posters of Zakir Musa, the chief of Jammu and Kashmir-based Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror outfit, with reported links to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) on the railway station premises to make public aware and seek their help in tracing him.

Inderjeet Singh, SHO of the GRP railway station, Jalandhar, said, “As the state has been on high alert after receiving intelligence inputs regarding the presence of Zakir Musa in Amritsar, we have released wanted posters of him as a precautionary measure to make public aware of his identity. We also request the people to inform the police immediately if they come across anything suspicious.”

The GRP are checking luggage of passengers and have asked them to alert the staff on noticing any suspicious activity in and around the railway station.

ACP (North) Navneet Mahal said, “Though the posters of Zakir Moosa have been released by the GRP, security has also been tightened in rural areas. We are keeping a close vigil on the movement of suspects. Efforts are being made to thwart any untoward incident.”

After intelligent agencies had issued a letter stating that seven members of the JeM were believed to be sighted in Ferozepur, the police are on their toes across the city.

No security around Nirankari Bhawan

Phagwara: Even after a grenade attack in Amritsar on Sunday despite high alert in the state, there were no tight security arrangements around Nirankari Bhawan near the Satnampura police station here.

During a visit to the bhawan after the Amritsar incident, there was not a single cop. A follower, who did not wish to be named, said police officers instructed them to install CCTV cameras there. — OC
