Schools oblivious of info on events

With the state government issuing instructions to all schools to observe the 3rd International Yoga Day at their respective schools on the morning of June 21, a majority of the schools have been caught off guard with many of the students away for holidays and teachers without an idea on how to get them to schools.

While in some blocks, teachers who received prior information had sought students to schools days ahead. In some areas, where the DEO letter in this regard had not reached schools heads even until 8 pm on Tuesday evening, the delay in the information is likely to play a spoilsport.

A teacher in the Nakodar block said; “It took us days to gather students and inform them about the Yoga Day celebrations on Wednesday so that it might not turn out to be a no-show. While a majority of the students are away to other villages for the holidays, it is difficult to get them to schools. Many head teachers have not even received intimations regarding the celebrations as yet. In such a scenario how will they manage to get students to schools.”

District ayurvedic officer Samrat Vikram Sehgal said: “At least four Yoga Day celebrations are being held at various places in the city with one at Dayanand Medical College, another at the Gymkhana Club and two other venues. We are expecting a participation of 500 to 600 people at the Dayanand Medical College alone. Additionally, students of the nursing college will also participate in the celebrations.”
