The newly-elected women panches and sarpanches of panchayats of Hoshiarpur district, rejoiced their victory in zila parishad elections. They danced to the tunes of Gidha.

They hailed the decision of the state government to provide 50 per cent reservation for women in local bodies and panchayats.

They thanked the Chief Minister (CM), Capt Amarinder Singh, for providing equal share to the ‘Aadhi Abadi’ (the women) in panchayats in the state for the first time.

They were happy that for the first time in the state women got seats equal to men in zila parishad, panchayat samiti and panchayats of villages. Member, zila parishad, Manpreet Kaur of Lehli Kalan village, said: “Due to the reservation, women have been able to avail of the opportunity to fulfil their dream of successful journey ‘from home to Panchayat Ghar’ and we are thankful to the CM for it.”
