Juvenile home inmate goes berserk, attacks staff

CHANDIGARH: A 20-year-old youth, who is lodged at Juvenile Home, Sector 25, allegedly attacked two employees, including a counsellor.

A 20-year-old youth, who is lodged at Juvenile Home, Sector 25, allegedly attacked two employees, including a counsellor. The youth is serving seven-year sentence in a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to the police, complainant Karamjit Singh, a staff munshi at Juvenile Home, reported that Ajay was going back to his dormitory with the caretaker when he suddenly ran towards the room of the probation officer where the complainant was sitting.

The police said the suspect allegedly entered into an altercation with the complainant and started abusing him. He then attacked the complainant and tore his uniform.

Kulwinder Singh, a counsellor at Juvenile Home, tried to intervene and pacify the suspect. However, the youth attacked him as well.

The police were informed following which a case under Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty) of the IPC was registered against the suspect at the Sector 11 police station.
