8 teams to participate in cricket league for deaf

LUDHIANA: Special cricketers from across the country, along with those from Nepal and Bangladesh, will be seen in action during the 3rd edition of the Usha India Cricket League for Deaf-2018 to be held here at various venues from Tuesday onwards.

Ludhiana, March 26

Special cricketers from across the country, along with those from Nepal and Bangladesh, will be seen in action during the 3rd edition of the Usha India Cricket League for Deaf-2018 to be held here at various venues from Tuesday onwards.

Addressing the media here on Monday, Padam Passi, CEO of the All-India Cricket Association for the Deaf, said eight teams — Chenab XI, Ravi XI, Beas XI, Sutlej XI, Jhelum XI, AICAD XI, Silent Heros XI and Deaf Lions XI — would compete in this league to be held at the PAU cricket ground, Government Model School ground at the PAU and the Guru Nanak Engineering College ground.

Eight matches will be played on March 27 while four matches are slated for March 28 and the final will be played at the Lovely Professional University ground, near Phagwara, on March 29. The winners and the runners-up would be given cash prizes in addition to the trophies, said Passi.

Besides, Usha International, the ONGC, NSDC, Avon Cycles, State Bank of India and the Mentor Skills India had been involved in organising the league, he added.

Kamal Sharma, former president, BJP, Punjab unit; Parveen Bansal, former Senior Deputy Mayor, Ludhiana; and Sukesh Kalia, Chairman, Punjab Child Rights Commission, were present on the occasion.

Kamal Sharma appreciated the organisers for organising the league which provided a platform to special cricketers to show their skills. He wished the players success and urged the citizens to encourage the players.
