A man and his son, both doctors, had a narrow escape when two drug addicts on a motorbike abruptly came in the middle of the Raikot-Ludhiana road near Gauhar village. To save the two youths, the man swerved his car that jumped over the divider and landed on the other side. The car would have collided head-on with a truck had the driver not applied brakes in time.

Dr Paramjit Ranu, a resident of Raikot, said: “Around 11 am, we were coming towards Ludhiana from Raikot when two youths, who were on a bike, abruptly came in the middle of the main road from a link road near Gauhar village. To save them, his son, Dr Navjot Singh Ranu, took a sharp. The vehicle jumped over the divider and landed on the other side. We escaped a head-on collision as the driver of a truck coming from the opposite direction applied breaks in time. We had a miraculous escape while saving the two youths,” said Dr Ranu.

Passers-by gathered at the spot. Dr Paramjit Ranu and his son caught hold of the youths. “They were out of senses. We recovered Tramadol tablets and ‘Santra’ alcohol from them. We called up the PCR and a team from the Dakha police station reached the spot. They took both youths into their custody. We had to hand over them to the police as they could have posed threat to others’ lives too. They were in their 30s. The mob tried to thrash them but we saved them and handed over them to the police,” said Dr Ranu.
