Driver gets 2-yr jail for causing biker’s death

The Court of Judicial Magistrate Rajinder Singh Teji has convicted Sukhbir Singh of Ludhiana of causing death of a motorcyclist. His rash and negligent driving had claimed the life of Rachhpal Singh of Kakka village.

He has been sentenced to two-year imprisonment. Delivering the verdict, the court held that the incidence of road accidents was increasing by the day and such matters should be dealt with sternly.

Initially, a case was registered against an unknown person on July 4, 2016, at the Meharban police station following a statement of Kulwant Singh of Kakka village, brother of the deceased. During investigation, the police traced the vehicle driver and apprehended him.

The complainant had told the police that he and his brother were going somewhere on separate motorcycles when a vehicle hit his brother’’s motorcycle and he fell on the road. He was taken to the hospital but he succumbed to injuries.
