LUDHIANA: Players continue to battle it out in different sports disciplines in the ongoing competitions being conducted under the Mission Tandrust Punjab.

Players continue to battle it out in different sports disciplines in the ongoing competitions being conducted under the Mission Tandrust Punjab.

The competitions were being organised across the state by the Punjab Sports Department with an aim to encourage youngsters to play games. The Ludhiana district office too held competition at Guru Nanak Stadium, besides sub centers scattered all over the district.

A basketball match in the girl’s section was played between Guru Nanak Club and Ludhiana XI at Guru Nanak Stadium in which the former managed to prevail over 32-22.

Dashmesh Coaching Centre, Raikot, played host to the athletics events for boys U-14 and U-20. Simratpal Singh emerged winner in the shot put event in the boys’ U-20 category while Dilawar Singh Grewal and Gurkirat Singh secured second and third position, respectively.

In discus throw in the same age group, Inderpreet Singh came out triumphant, followed by Gurkirat Singh and Dilbagh Singh, who finished at second and third place, respectively.

In the 100-m sprint for boys U-14, Gursangat Singh emerged the winner. Kanwarveer Singh ranked second.

Competition in judo for girls U-14 was held at the multipurpose indoor hall, opposite Guru Nanak Stadium wherein Isha Sharma bagged top position in the below 32-kg weight group while Simran Kaur and Surbani followed her at second and third position, respectively.

In the below 36-kg category, Ishika emerged triumphant. Namrata got second position and Manisha finished at third place whereas in the below 40- kg weight section, Preeti Kumari and Khushi secured top two positions.

Radhika clinched top honours in the below 44-kg weight category while Gurleen had to content with the second position.

At Jarg Coaching Centre, competition for boys U-17 in weightlifting was held in which Aslam, Gurshaan and Pahulpreet Singh finished at first three spots.
