Ludhiana, January 12
A city-based NGO—Pehal— installed an LPG crematorium (cremation equipment) at Swami Vivekanand Swarg Ashram Trust cremation ground at Model Town Extension here on Friday.
The LPG-based crematorium was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal.
Pehal NGO founder and former councillor Tanvir Singh Dhaliwal said the LPG-based crematorium had been installed in the memory of his mother Hans Kaur Dhaliwal.
“It has been observed that the traditional method of performing last rites uses around four-quintal wood. On the other hand, LPG-based cremations will require only around two LPG cylinders. The LPG crematorium creates less pollution,” said Tanvir Dhaliwal.
“It is the first LPG crematorium in the city for public use. Amrik Singh Akhara has made this equipment and we will get it installed at other cremation grounds in Ludhiana also. We are thankful to Anil Bharti, Chairman, Vivekanand Trust, for his support,” he said.
