LUDHIANA: Participants from Ludhiana along with those from Jalandhar recorded victories in most of the encounters to advance into the next round on the first day of the Punjab State Masters Badminton Tournament, being held at Shastri Hall, near Guru Nanak Stadium, here today.

Ludhiana, January 19

Participants from Ludhiana along with those from Jalandhar recorded victories in most of the encounters to advance into the next round on the first day of the Punjab State Masters Badminton Tournament, being held at Shastri Hall, near Guru Nanak Stadium, here today. As many as 200 players between plus 35 to plus 65 years are taking part in the three-day tournament being organised by the District Badminton Association, Ludhiana.

Men’s singles (plus 35): Lakhwinder Singh of Ludhiana beats Simar Singh of Mohali 14-21, 21-11 and 21-19; Suresh Sood of Ludhiana beats Rajan Harish of Ropar 21-15, 21-14; Jaswant Singh of Barnala beats Akash Walia of Pathankot 21-14, 21-9; Manoj Kochhar of Jalandhar beats Jagjit Singh of Pathankot 21-13, 21-4.

Men’s singles (plus 40): Mohd Saleem of Limited (PSPCL) beats Manish Aggarwal of Jalandhar 21-7, 21-11; Vipan of Jalandhar beats Tarun Arora of Ludhiana 21-15, 21-12; Amrik Singh of Ludhiana beats Amarveer Singh of Pathankot 21-15, 21-13; Jaideep Kohli of Jalandhar beats Rahul Kalra of Mohali 21-17, 21-18.

Men’s singles (plus 45): Gursharan Shandayal of Ludhiana beats Devinder Joshi of Kapurthala 21-17, 21-12.

Men’s singles (plus 50): Kirandeep Singh Bhalla of Ludhiana beats Rajiv Aggarwal of Kapurthala 21-16, 21-11; Vineet Kumar of Pathankot beats Harwinder Singh of Jalandhar 21-16, 21-10; Harpal Singh Juneja of Mohali got walk over against Amarjit Singh of Kapurthala;

Men’s singles (plus 55): Ram Lakhan of Jalandhar beats Pritam Singh of Pathankot 21-11, 1-0.
