Civic body aims at 100% waste segregation

Ludhiana: After slipping to 163rd rank in Swachh Survekshan 2019, the MC is going to hold a contest among wards to improve the solid waste management system in the city.



Ludhiana: After slipping to 163rd rank in Swachh Survekshan 2019, the MC is going to hold a contest among wards to improve the solid waste management system in the city. The contest aims at 100% door-to-door garbage collection with proper segregation of waste.

Municipal Commissioner Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar today conducted zone-wise meetings with councillors.

The award money is Rs 50 lakh for the winner, Rs 25 lakh for second place and Rs 10 lakh for third place. The top three performing councillors would be given this award money in the form of additional quota for development works to be done in their respective wards.

“The councillors were made aware about the solid waste management system of Indore that has stood first in Swachh Survekshan 2019,” said Senior Assistant Engineer HS Aujla.

Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said they have purchased new “rehras” (for lifting garbage) and other equipment. “The councillors have been asked to help the MC in ensuring segregation of wet and dry waste.” TNS
